Dissemination of our Project - ITALY

Dear friends,

8th of June was the last day of lessons in Italian Secondary Schools. Then my students of “terza media” are facing with final exams until the end of June.

During the “open day”  we ( my students and I) …

“gathered and presented the most interesting presentations of all countries, we talked about all the activities that took place during  this perfect collaboration, we showed pictures of all the participating countries,  we talked about our great partners… All our audience (students, teachers, parents) was impressed of this great job. We got such warm comments that made us feel very proud.”

Sorry if I use the same words as Anastasia but really I won’t find words more meaningful than that! :-)

My students will prepare a post to the final report even in our Italian blog

According to us, our eTwinning project  represented a great opportunity to meet people and growth in the European dimension!

Thanks to all great European teachers partners and mostly thanks to European students …

Students were the real stars of our journey!

Margherita d'Austria e Ortona ( Italy)

Margaret of Austria is  the prominent  personalitie  who scored significantly political, economic and administrative live of the ancient Abruzzo,  projecting  it into the great  national and european history.

On February 21st 1582, Margaret of Austria, Duchess of Parma, daughter of Emperor Charles V, purchases, for 54,000 ducats , the City of Ortona.

The city's economy was based on agriculture and the harbor, with considerable trade with the Mediterranean countries.

Margarita made his triumphal entry into Ortona at the end of October 1583, hosted in the house of Messer Camillo De Sanctis, in Piazza San Tommaso.

She  had to build a palace in Ortona that would  reflect the  magnitude of the daughter of the Emperor Charles V and sister of King Philip II.

The construction of the palace meant for the City and for the entire Abruzzo a cultural  remarkable happening.

Under each cornerstone of the building was laid in memory of the Duchess  three  bronze medals with the image of Margaret.

Today  the  splendid setting of Palazzo Farnese in Ortona, from 19 April to 30 June 2013, incorporates a new exciting exhibition dedicated to Margaret of Austria.
... masterpieces of painting and sculpture  by contemporary artists of Margaret to be rediscovered!

Cascella… a family of artists from Abruzzo (ITALY)

To this extraordinary family the city of Pescara dedicated a museum where we went last month.

Before becoming a museum in 1975 to the Cascella family, this place was a home, a laboratory, an artists’ coterie, a place of experimentation and teaching. It is near the historical centre of the Pescara city, near the house of Gabriele D’Annunzio, and it fosters not only a precious art collection, but also a fascinating history.

From the progenitor Basilio (1860-1950), through his successor –Tommaso, Michele e Gioacchino, Andrea e Pietro, Marco, Tommaso jr and Jacopo- to the youngest progeny Matteo Basile (1974) and Davide Sebastian (1981).

From symbolism in the late 1800s to modern day digital art: there are over 600 pieces of art created by 5 generations of artists, an extraordinary dynasty, a great cultural adventure.
