Today we took the bus and after about half an hour we
arrived in Pescara to the house where the poet Gabriele D'Annunzio was born. His birthplace is open to the public as a
museum
On the first floor of the museum there’s an exhibition of paintings, photos and documents…
Gabriele D’Annunzio writes about Ortona, our town, in
some poems: he writes about her mother’s
house, the Onofri’s detached house, the S.Caterina religious house where the
nuns lived. He often went in Ortona to come over to his friends and relatives.
In Ortona I spent some good hours. Ortona nights are
truly magical: the small curved bay is a wonderful twinkle of stars reflected
in quiet water. (He wrote)
The most famous description about Ortona is in the
romance “Trionfo della morte ”.
D’Annunzio also writes about people from Ortona in his
short stories called Novelle della Pescara
During our visit we saw each room. The furnitures were
very beautiful. Each room is described with the words of the poem: “Il
notturno” where the poet remembers the place and his relatives.
Luisa De Benedictis
Luisa De Benedictis, his mother was born in Ortona on
the 17th December 1839, she married Francesco Paolo D’Annunzio; Gabriele
as a child turned out to be a child prodigy and he became surely very important about the European
literature
Some of his
poetic works are very popular, most notably his poem "La pioggia nel
pineto" (The Rain in the Pinewood), which exemplifies his linguistic virtuosity as
well as the sensuousness of his poetry.
Hush.
On the edge
Of the woods I do not hear
Words which you call
Human; but I hear
Words which are newer
Spoken by droplets and leaves
Far away.
Listen. Rain falls
From the scattered clouds.
Rain falls on the tamarisks
Briny and parched.
Rain falls on the pine trees...
greetings from the terd class f
